Search

Search the Newman Guide (Colleges and Articles) and Selected Church Documents:

All the content within the Newman Guide as well as the selected relevant Church documents can be searched. There are two search categories: (1) Colleges and (2) Documents.

The first category describes the colleges themselves; the latter category includes the instructive articles contained in the Newman Guide regarding Catholic colleges in general as well as selected Church documents.

Tap either "Colleges" or "Documents" in the "Search" section. The search interface appears.

Search Syntax

Search features include Boolean AND, Boolean OR, and quoted expressions. All searches are case-insensitive and whole-word. Search syntax is best explained by the examples below, which pertain to the Bible:

Faith Truth -> Will give search results only for those Biblical verses which contain both “faith” and “truth”. Hence the searches default to Boolean AND.

Faith or Truth -> Will give results for those verses which contain either faith or truth. Hence searches require “OR” if they are meant to be Boolean OR. (Note that you can’t search for the whole world “or”. This is intentional since the benefits from searching for the common word “or” does not outweigh the intuitive simplicity of simply typing “or” to designate the corresponding Boolean condition. It does’t matter if the keyword OR is capitalized or not.)

"faithful college" -> Will give results only when the words are consecutive.

"faithful college" truth -> RepRepeating the last search with the additional word "truth" will give results only for those paragraphs containing both "faithful college" and "truth".

More Information After the Search

Tapping on a result in the Search Result table will then show the entire paragraph.

The text will highlight the search term in bold.

The previous or next paragraphs can then be accessed with the Previous and Next Arrows (or swipes).

Yet More Information

The full context (usually a chapter) can be loaded by tapping the Other arrow as described in READ ME. The search terms are in bold; subsequent and previous chapters can be accessed with the corresponding arrows.

Limitations

There is not function for partial word searches. However, you can work around this limitation by using the OR keyword.
